Can a hypnotist gain control over a client against
his wishes?
Hypnosis is actually something that the client does.
A hypnotherapist is merely a guide, leading the client to the hypnotic
trance.
When a person is in hypnosis, they are deeply relaxed physically, but
mentally they are many times more alert than in the normal state of awareness.
A person will hear and respond to everything around them and is an active
participant in the session.
At all times, people have complete control over what they will or will
not do. Any suggestion that is even slightly uncomfortable will be instantly
rejected. You will not do or say anything you would not do or say of your
own free will.
Can only weak-minded people be hypnotized?
To the contrary, the best hypnotic subjects are those who have average
or above average intelligence, good powers of concentration, good imaginations
and motivation.
Will I reveal my innermost secrets?
Under hypnosis, you never lose consciousness and are always aware of everything
that occurs. You are in control of each session. Nothing is done
or revealed unless you have the desire to do so.
You can even lie in hypnosis. If this weren't true, all we would have
to do is hypnotize a prisoner and ask them if they are guilty!
What does hypnosis feel like?
People may experience hypnosis differently.
Some people experience intense awareness, others profound relaxation.
The words of the hypnotist may be clear, at other times bearly audible.
The hypnotist's voice may seem to fade in and out.
The client is always free to alter the hypnotic experience and come out
of trance at will.
Hypnosis is actually a state of increased awareness with deep mental and
physical relaxation. Many people, after their first hypnotic experience,
question whether they were really hypnotized because they were aware of
everything that happened.
You are even able to move and talk in a hypnotic state. If not, all stage
hypnotists would be out of work!
Can you become "lost " in hypnosis and
never "wake up"?
No one has ever remained in hypnosis unable to be aroused. One emerges
from the trance state whenever necessary.
Hypnosis is a 100% consent state of mind. If at any time, or for
any reason you want to emerge from the hypnotic state, you will instantly
and naturally open your eyes and become fully alert.
No one can keep you in hypnosis against your will!
Can you be too strong willed to be hypnotized?
Hypnosis is not something one person "does" to another. We're
all born with the ability to enter and utilize hypnosis. Hypnosis is simply
a skill the client learns. The depth of hypnosis, is different for everyone.
Developing the skillful use of trance can be enhanced with the guidance
of an experienced hypnotherapist. It is the client using his or her own
abilities (including concentration and imagination) who produces what
we recognize as "hypnotic" effects
Who can be hypnotized?
Most everyone can be hypnotized. Certain people with serious mental disorders
may have difficulty.
